Sunday, Feb. 21
4:20 p.m.: U.S. Coast Guard Station Chetco River received a call informing them that a small boat had taken a breaker over its bow just off Sporthaven Beach. A 47-foot motor lifeboat was launched to assess the situation. When on scene it was noted that the pleasure craft had taken on water from the wave and assistance was requested. The motor lifeboat towed the boat into the Port of Brookings-Harbor.
Monday, Feb. 22
1:30 p.m.: U.S. Coast Guard Group Humboldt Bay received a call about a boat possibly in distress on the rocks at Castle Rock near Crescent City, Calif. A helicopter from Air Station Humboldt Bay, a Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office boat, a small boat from the Cutter Dorado stationed in Crescent City, and a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Chetco River were all dispatched. The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office boat and the small boat from Cutter Dorado were able to confirm that no vessel was in distress.
