William Francis Ferry Sr., 83, La Canada, Calif., died Sept. 3, 2000.
He was born July 21, 1917, in Glendale, Calif., to parents Peter Leo and Catherine Belle Ferry. He attended schools and college in Glendale and Los Angeles.
In early 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served more than five years in World War II.
He was past president of the Southern California Ready Mix Association, past president of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, past president of Oakmont Country Club and was chosen as Glendale Industrialist of the Year in 1988.
Mr. Ferry was active in his parish, St. Bedes, the Catholic Youth Organization, St. Francis High School, Saint Andrews Abbey and most recently, Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years Peggy Ferry, La Canada; son and daughter-in-law Bill Ferry Jr. and Beth Ferry, Brookings; daughter and son-in-law Helen Anne and Tom McMeekin, Sisters; grandchildren Mike, Ann, and Kay Ferry, and Sara and Tyler McMeekin; sister Mary Alice Diener, Five Points, Calif.; brother Patrick Ferry of La Mesa, Calif.
Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Preceding him in death was his daughter Jane.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Roger Mahoney at St. Bedes Church in La Canada on Sept. 6.
