William Edward Bales passed away on July 1, 2012 at the age of 68 at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, Calif.
William was born in Crescent City on July 22, 1943. He served in the Army during World War II in Nuremberg, Germany, where he met his wife and brought her back to the U.S.
He was a devoted husband and father who loved the outdoors. William was best known for his many years as a commercial fisherman in Crescent City, where he earned the nickname Breezy Bill.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Karin G. Bales, of Crescent City; his sons Andreas Bales, Oregon City, William Arthur Bales Jr., Crescent City; Andrea’s wife Sandy Bales; Billy’s future wife Julie Hammock; grandchildren Trevor Bales, Oregon City, Trystan Bales, Oregon City, Ashley Faye Wallace, Springfield, Tenn.; brothers Warren Bales, Shasta Calif., Robert Bales Sr., Hornbrook.
The family has had a private ceremony. Arrangements are being made for a memorial plot that will be placed in the U.S. National cemetery in Portland to commemorate his time served in the military.
