June 11, 1935-Jan. 12, 2014

Longtime Harbor resident William “Bill” Ben Peterson passed away on Jan. 12, 2014 at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, at age 78.

Following high school, Bill moved to Humboldt County in California to work in sawmills, where he met and married the love of his life Delores May Johnson on March 5, 1958.

About 1961, the family moved to Harbor, where he worked at South Coast Lumber; there, he pulled Green Chain, ran the chipper, and worked as a millwright. He then started working in the truck shop until his retirement in 2002.

Bill loved fishing and working on various projects around the house and he loved helping friends and family with their projects, as well.

Survivors include Delores, his wife of 55 years, of Harbor; twin brother Walter and other siblings Brance, Peter, and Martha, all of Fort Bragg, and Margurite of Texas; son Hugh (Rose) Peterson of Brookings; grandchildren April, Christopher, Tabatha, Heather (Josh) of Brookings and Patricia of Medford. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Bonni.

Bill will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Bill’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Pacific Center, 800 Chetco Ave., at the Event Center, Unit B.

Memorial donations, to help cover expenses for the family, may be made at any Rogue Federal Credit Union under Delores Peterson’s name.
