Willa Bea Grindinger

Willa Bea Grindinger, 91, of Brookings, died Sept. 16, 2002, of natural causes at Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City.

She was born Nov. 21, 1910, in Carter, Okla., to Oscar P. and Audra Odessa Etter Williams.

She graduated from high school in Oklahoma City and attended Oklahoma Women's College in Chickasha, Okla.

While working in the family restaurant, she met Reed Cunningham and they were married in 1938. Mr. Cunningham was employed in the oil fields and she lived with him in many locales, including a year in Italy.

They later divorced and she moved to California, where she worked as a secretary for a glass company in Long Beach, and in the film industry for Technicolor.

She married Louis Grindinger on Nov. 1, 1958, in Los Angeles. They made their home in the Hollywood area until retirement, at which time they moved to Victorville, Calif. Louis passed away on Nov. 26, 1984.

In1989, she moved to Brookings to be near her brother Elmo Williams and his family.

Mrs. Grindinger enjoyed travel, gardening, golf, playing bridge and was a well-read person and an interesting conversationalist.

She is survived by her sister, Avah (Snooks) Wiggins of Brookings; brother and wife, Elmo and Lorraine Williams of Brookings.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis; brothers, Afton and Burch Williams and two infant sisters.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Grindinger's name may be made to the South Coast Humane Society Shelter, 828 Railroad Ave., Brookings, OR 97415.

A memorial service will be at the Brookings Presbyterian Church. Time is to be announced. Inurnment will be at Desert View Memorial Gardens in Victorville, Calif.

Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel in Brookings.
