Wesley Vernon Parks, 74, of Harbor, died March 28, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born May 20, 1927, in Los Angeles, a son of Ermond and Sada Parks. He was raised in the Grants Pass area.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. Following active duty, he returned to Grants Pass and finished high school. He served in the Navy reserves until 1971.
He worked most of his life as a heavy equipment mechanic, and retired in 1987. On July 16, 1988, he married Frances Bisballe, and they made their home in Central Point until moving to Brookings in 1997. Model railroading was a hobby Mr. Parks enjoyed and spent many hours doing. He was a gifted singer, and shared his talents at the Brookings-Harbor Christian Church where he was a member.
He is survived by sons, Dane Parks of Great Mills, Md.; and Dent Parks of Grants Pass; daughter, Kitty Jo Davis of Merlin; brothers, Ermond Parks of Moses Lake, Wash.; Francis Parks of Angels Camp, Calif.; and Robert Parks of West Valley City, Utah; sister, Rachael Coome of Sunny Valley. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; four step-children and 10 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rose Heagle.
