Virgil D. Derryberry III, 66, Grants Pass, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at his home in Grants Pass from cancer.

He was born Sep. 2, 1935, to Virgil D. Derryberry Jr. and Edythe Derryberry in Brokenbow, Okla.

He married Kathryn L. Jennie in Roseburg June 6, 1956.

He lived in Roseburg until 1966, working for the Iron Workers Union constructing dams and bridges. He moved to Brookings in 1967, where he was a partner in the Chetco Barber Shop.

Mr. Derryberry was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church and the Elks Lodge.

In 1971, he and his family moved to Central Point and co-owned Medford Yamaha and Suzuki from 1973 to 1984.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, playing cards, shooting pool and going to flea markets.

Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Brown of Brookings; son, Michael Derryberry of Medford; sisters, Mary L. Johnston and Beverly A. Johnson; and brothers, Jack K. Derryberry and Tony E. Derryberry.

Also surviving are grandchildren Lindsey Brown, Lance Brown and Kristen Derryberry.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

At Mr. Derryberrys request there were no services. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
