Violet Evelyn Babe Bates, 89, died May 7, 2001, in Onalaska, Wash.
She was born Sept. 13, 1911, in Montana to Annabelle Miller and Charles Thompson.
She married Earl J. Bates in Tacoma, Wash., June 13, 1928.
She raised 15 children while living in Washington and California. She enjoyed camping, cooking on hunting trips and traveling to Reno, Nev.
Survivors are her sons Bob Bates of Port Hadlock, Wash.; Jim Bates of Eatonville, Wash.; Pete Bates of Forks, Wash.; Bruce Bates of Klamath; Leonard Bates of Port Townsend, Wash.; Mike Bates of Brookings; Kenny Bates of Eureka, Calif; Terry Bates of Eureka; daughters Barbara Whittier of Las Vegas; Margie Smith and Darlene Craig, both of Brookings; Sandra Long of Onalaska, Wash.
Also surviving are 55 grandchildren, 99 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband on May 20, 1995; sons Dick and Don Bates and daughter Shirley.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend, Wash.
A chapel funeral succession will follow at the Kosec Funeral Home at 1 p.m.
She will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Chimacum, Wash.
