 Verna Calabrese Verna Calabrese, 92, of Brookings, passed away at her home, Aug. 2, 2011. Verna was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Shamokin, Pa., a coalminer’s daughter to Paul and Elizabeth (Hornyak) Seman. She was married to Joseph Anthony Calabrese, who preceded her in death in 1998. Verna worked as a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble and practiced tai chi into her 90s. Survivors include her daughter Linda Wyner of Brookings and granddaughter Lisa Wyner of Brookings. A memorial service will be at noon Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Pelican Perch, 1216 Moore St., in Brookings. Verna will be laid to rest with her husband, Joseph, at St. John’s Cemetery in Wallingford, Conn. Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net. Submitted by Redwood Memorial Chapel.
