Tony Barreras Silva
April 11, 1937-April 25, 2014
Tony Silva passed away peacefully April 25, 2014, surrounded by his family, at his home in Powers.
Tony was born April 11, 1937, in Mountain View, California, to Henry Silva and Mary Barreras Silva.
He was raised by his grandmother in Mountain View, after the passing of his mother when he was only 3 years old.
Tony married his beloved wife Yvonne Feb. 8, 1958. They recently celebrated their 56th anniversary.
Tony served in the U.S. Army National Guard in the 1950s and 1960s.
He was a loving father of three children.
Tony was a very hard worker. He began his career working for Johnson & Johnson in Sunnyvale, California, in 1959, until moving to South Lake Tahoe, California, where he worked for Caesars Tahoe as an engineer for 25 years.
Tony and Yvonne retired to Brookings in 1999. He volunteered for Hospice in Brookings and in Gold Beach as a way of giving back for all the care they gave his son Corey.
In 2007 they moved to Powers. There, he volunteered at the local thrift store, until his health failed. He enjoyed working there and meeting new friends. Tony loved football, basketball and track. He loved to support the local school teams, especially those of his grandson Aaron.
He leaves behind his daughter Toni Mechling and husband Bob of Bandon; son Shawn Silva and wife Brandy, and their three children — grandsons Cody Maciel and Aaron Silva, and granddaughter Sydnee Silva of Diamond Springs, California; brother-in-law Mel Arteaga and wife Joella of Brookings; niece Jennifer Arteaga and her daughter Gabriella of Brookings; nephew Nathan Arteaga and his wife Paige of Klamath Falls. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, all of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son Corey Silva; and his only brother Henry Silva.
A special thank you goes to Hospice for all the care and support they’ve given our family over the years.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Powers.
