Tom Nicholas Tanzi
Oct. 6, 1945-March 11, 2014
Tom Nicholas Tanzi, of Brookings, died March 11, 2014, in Brookings.
He was born Oct. 6, 1945, in San Francisco, to Beverly Gallagher and Wesley Tanzi.
Tom grew up on a bend of a country road in the midst of the redwood forest. There was a post office, church, country store and beautiful creek running through Lagunitas, Calif. He became an excellent “crawdader,” fisherman, a bit of a hunter, and sandlot football player, where all the local kids got to play and then run down to the swimming hole, surrounded by baby pink roses, to cool off.
Tom followed his dad’s footsteps into carpentry. The bulk of his work was in building and drafting in Northern California. His musical influences came from his mom, who was a professional musician.
Tom moved to Brookings in 1999 because of his love for natural beauty.
Tom was known as an original Art Walk musician and featured artist in art galleries in Brookings and Gold Beach. He loved playing at the Port of Brookings Harbor and had something for everyone, from Cole Porter to Coldplay.
Tom reached out to the community with his greatest endeavor, the kingdom ministry. Most enjoyable to him was the door-to-door ministry. Tom loved getting to meet people to encourage them through the Bible. He taught people about the many blessings God’s kingdom will soon bring and the deep love God has for each of us. Tom was known for his faithfulness and love of others. He will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his daughters Tonya Govenor and Darby Ficek of Medford; sister Roberta Bickel; brothers John, Tim and Joey Tanzi. Also surviving are nine beloved grandchildren .
Tom was preceded in death by his son Joel Tanzi; brother Mike Tanzi; and his parents.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at 1208 Ransom Ave., Brookings.
