Tom Henry T. Davis

Tom Henry T. Davis, 82, Brookings, died at his home Nov. 13, 2000, after a long battle with skin cancer.

He was born July 21, 1918, in Bridger, Mont., to Henry and Elizabeth Hoffman Davis.

The family moved to a ranch northwest of Belgrade, Mont., when he was 2 years old. He attended school in Belgrade.

Mr. Davis was a cowboy and worked for the CA Ranch and the Harry Brainard Ranch. He was a professional rodeo man and won money in Calgary, Portland, Pendleton and Cheyenne among other rodeos.

He was a bulldogger and calf roper, and was proud of his low membership number (791) in the Pro Rodeo Circuit Association.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He married Winona Mathews in 1938. She died in 1952.

In 1958, he married Oleta Murphy.

He worked on road construction and was breaking and training horses north of Bozeman, Mont., when he retired.

In 1980, he and his wife bought a motorhome and spent their winters in the Southwest.

In their travels, they went north to Inuvik, North West Territories, west to Homer, Alaska, east to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, south to Key West, Fla., and Brownsville, Texas, and roads in-between.

Survivors are his wife Oleta Davis, Brookings; stepdaughter Sharon (Steve) Baker, Clovis, Calif.; brother Sidney (Hup) Davis, Bozeman, Mont.; sisters Virginia (Bill) Holcomb, Vancouver, Wash.; Marylyn (Dick) Rush, San Jose, Calif.; sister-in-law Mary Davis, Laughlin, Nev.; stepgrandchildren Shawna Murphy, Belgrade, Mont.; Shawn (Kim) Baker, Salida, Calif.; Sheldon Baker, Henderson, Nev.; Penny Moore, Livingston, Mont.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Art Davis and stepsons Patrick and Michael Murphy.

No formal services will be conducted. Cremation occurred in Brookings. Remembrances may be made to the hospice or charity of ones choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlins Brookings Mortuary Chapel.
