Thomas A. Dykes Jr., 73, Brookings, died Sept. 3, 2000, in Crescent City.

He was born Sept. 7, 1926, in Honeygrove, Texas, to Thomas and Marie (Quells) Dykes.

He was raised and educated in Honeygrove. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in World War II.

He earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with one bronze star; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star; Good Conduct Medal; Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan) and the Victory Ribbon.

After his discharge, he married Lois Alice McManana in 1947 in Central Point. He was employed as a logger and trucker in the Southern Oregon area.

He retired to Medford in 1986 and then relocated to Brookings in May 1998.

He was a member of the Brookings Elks Lodge and a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Port Orford.

He enjoyed gardening and working on small motors and trucks.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Linda Dykes, Brookings; daughter and son-in-law Marilen and Lonnie Zuppe, Central Point; half-brothers Allen, Clyde and Bob Dykes, all of Texas; sister Lena Shaw, Medford.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Lois Alice Dykes and seven brothers and sisters.

A memorial service is scheduled for today (Sept. 9) at 2 p.m. at Scantlins Brookings Mortuary Chapel.

Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlins Brookings Mortuary Chapel.
