Ted Shields passed away Oct. 12, 2012, at his home in Brookings. He was 77.
Ted was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Parsons, Kan., one of seven children to Roy and Gladys (Hughes) Shields.
He spent his childhood there until after high school, when he came out to California. Ted began a career in the timber industry working in plywood mills.
He married Josephine Pilat Aug. 16, 1956, in Ukiah, Calif. They moved to Brookings in 1965 where Ted finished his career with Brookings Plywood. He retired in the late 1990s.
Ted enjoyed playing golf and was previously a member of the Del Norte Golf Club. He also like hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include Josephine “Jo” Shields, his wife of 56 years, of Brookings; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Todd Evanow of Harbor; grandchildren Jasper Evanow, Jamie Evanow, Kenny Keever, Jessica Evanow and SP Swick; great-grandchildren Aaliah Swick, Bon and Peyton Keever, and Chase Evanow.
Ted was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and David; and a great-granddaughter Maliah Swick.
A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. today (Oct.17), at W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery, 1035 Seventh St., in Brookings. Interment will follow there.
