Ruth Sullivan Haviland, 85, Medford, died Oct. 13, 2000.

She was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Portland to Florance and Othelia Sullivan.

She graduated from Holy Child Academy in Portland in 1932. She graduated from Marylhurst College cum laude in 1936. She was student body president at the college.

She married Paul. W. Haviland July 23, 1938, in Portland. They lived in Chicago, Baltimore and Wilmington, Del., before returning to Oregon.

Mrs. Haviland was past president of St. Anns Altar Society of Sacred Heart Parish in Medford. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and an active supporter of St. Marys High School, Sacred Heart School and Providence Hospital.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Medford and Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Brookings, and the Rogue Valley Country Club.

Survivors are her husband of 62 years Paul W. Haviland, Medford; daughter Anne Ruona, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; sisters Loretta Meyer, Seattle, Wash.; Joanne Sullivan, Spokane, Wash.

Also surviving are three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death was her brother Ronald Sullivan and sisters Helen Kenny and Judith Mary.

Memorial services were held Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford. Father Edmund Ryan, O.P. officiated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Perl Funeral Home, Medford.
