Ruth Esther McLennan, 84, Smith River, died Oct. 13, 2000.
She was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Cortex, Colo., to William Elzie and Alberta Rhoda Ashbaugh.
She moved to Bellingham, Wash., where she graduated from high school and attended business college.
She married Kenneth McLennan in 1937. They moved to California in 1950 and to Del Norte County in 1954.
Survivors are her daughters Rena Koke and Marlene Williams, both of Chico, Calif; Myrna Fears and Colleen Martin, both of Smith River; Holly Williams of Crescent City; sons Doug Calkin of St. Helena, Calif.; Mike McLennan, U.S. Navy, Japan; Bill and Dennis McLennan, both of Smith River; Jim McLennan, Brookings; sister Margaret Davidson, Kansas; brother George Ashbaugh, Washington; Lloyd Ashbaugh, N.M.
Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband Kenneth McLennan, daughter Linda and son Gary.
Memorial graveside services will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at Smith River District Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wiers Mortuary Chapel, Crescent City.
