Ross E. Shawaker

Aug. 21, 1925-March 21, 2014

Ross E. Shawaker of Brookings, passed away March 21, 2014, in Crescent City, Calif. He was 88 years old. 

Ross was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Portage, a small village in Wood County, Ohio, to Wilbur and Florence (Eckert) Shawaker. 

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, where he served during World War II for a year. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from Bowling Green State University where he earned an undergraduate degree in business administration. 

Ross married Elaine Hirschy Sept. 5, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio. 

A true academic, Ross went on to study philosophy at both Columbia University and Yale University. He was a golf pro, and golfing was his passion. He worked a variety of professions, and ultimately settled in as a real estate investor.

Ross is survived by his wife Elaine, and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his brothers Franklin Shawaker and Karl Shawaker, and sisters Freda Shawaker and Fern.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Coast Humane Society, P.O. Box 7833, Brookings OR 97415.
