Roger D. Gehrke
March 13, 1957-Dec. 10, 2013
Roger D. Gehrke passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in Cottage Grove, of cancer.
He was born March 13, 1957, in Crescent City, Calif., one of seven children, to Robert and Avonell Gehrke.
Roger grew up in Brookings and married Karen Brown in 1976.
After working in logging and auto body repair he moved his family to Cottage Grove in 1985. In Cottage Grove he operated Roger’s Collision Repair with Karen and the girls for many years before returning to independent auto body repair and paint. He was so passionate about auto painting that he taught both of his daughters the trade.
Roger leaves behind wife Karen; daughters Miranda and Cassandra; granddaughter Nastasha all of Cottage Grove; siblings Dianna, Lynne Dee, Aydria, Dave, Loren and Debbie. He is also survived by many, many wonderful friends who supported him through the past year and a half as he battled his cancer with good humor and a positive approach.
His favorite hobbies were planning pranks of epic proportions and telling stories about his childhood adventures. Everyone he came in contact with has a story attached to some event with Roger, leaving us all with smiles to share. We’ll have a cold one for you, Roger, while we laugh, tell and retell your stories.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Jan. 18, 2014. The location will be announced in a future edition of the Pilot.
