Robert Bob Brown, 79, Brookings, died Jan. 28, 2001, at Providence Medical Center in Medford.
He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Sams Valley.
He attended Medford schools. In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving with the 87th Infantry of the 10th Mountain Division as a ski-trooper.
Mr. Brown cared for the pack animals needed for the advancement through the Italian Alps during World War II. He participated in the Northern Appennines and Po Valley campaigns in Europe.
He married Lois Egelston in December 1943.
He began working for Medford Corp. in 1945 and remained there until his retirement in 1985.
He moved to Harbor where he enjoyed fishing. He was involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Coast Guard Auxiliary and Disabled American Veterans.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Harbor Fire Department and volunteered with Disabled American Veterans. He transported military veterans from Brookings to the Eagle Point Veterans Hospital until 1998.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery in Medford. A Veterans Honor Guard will salute his passing.
