Richard H. “Dick” Lamb passed away at his home in Brookings on June 14, 2012. He was 82.

Dick, as his family and friends knew him, was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Scotia, Calif., to Harold and Frances (Cross) Nulph.

He grew up with his grandparents in Rio Dell, Calif. He then moved to Fortuna, Calif., where he was raised by his mother Frances and stepfather Tom Lamb.

He married Carolyn J. Crank June 13, 1948, in Fortuna.

Dick attended Humboldt State College briefly, where he played football, before learning the carpentry trade from his father-in-law.

He and Carolyn later moved to Fremont, Calif. where Dick worked as a carpenter and then as a Coca Cola delivery driver in the East Bay for seven years. He later began what would be a 30-year career in the newspaper business – starting  with a newspaper distribution business and retiring as circulation manager for the Bay Area News Group in Livermore, Calif.

After retirement, he and Carolyn purchased a fifth wheel and enjoyed traveling. They eventually moved to Brookings in 1995 where they built their dream home.

Dick and Carolyn enjoyed their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved taking them to the ocean and river to play.

He was a master carpenter and throughout their life they bought “fixer-upper” homes and remodeled and redecorated them.

Dick loved to go fishing on the ocean and on the Chetco River with his buddies.

Survivors include Carolyn, his wife of 64 years, of Brookings; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Carole Lamb of Fremont; son, Michael Lamb of Brookings; daughter and son-in-law Rene and Michael Bruggeman of Brookings; grandchildren Stephanie Minor her husband David, Allison Thacker and Rachel Lamb; great-grandchildren Auden and Nadjia Minor.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-father and daughter Pamela.

A celebration of life will be held later in the summer.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.redwoodmemorial.net.
