Richard Dick Franklin Freese

Richard Dick Franklin Freese, 71, Brookings, died May 18, 2001, at his home of pancreatic cancer.

He was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Klamath Falls.

He was the owner of Dicks Barbershop on Minnesota Street in Bend for eight years and co-owner of the Harbor Barber in Brookings, with his wife, Linda, for the past two years.

He and his wife moved to Brookings in 1999.

Mr. Freese was a professional truck driver for 30 years living in Oregon and Washington. He and his wife worked together at Harbor Barber in Brookings until the decline of his health.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors and acts of kindness and laughter. He was famous for giving a hunting or fishing story with every haircut, his family said.

He loved catching springers on the Rogue River. He owned the Golden Key.

Survivors are his wife of Brookings; mother Margaret Freese of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter Denise; sons and daughters-in-law Rick and Laurie Freese; Brent and Teresa Freese; Jeff and Patti Freese; brothers and sisters-in-law Lee and Carol Freese, and Gary and Donna Freese, all of Junction City; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Burl of Gig Harbor, Wash.; dog Katy, who was his constant companion, and Muffin.

Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

At his request, a memorial will be at sea on his boat. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501, or to Curry County Hospice, P.O. Box 6042, Brookings, OR 97415.
