Richard Arthur Larsson Sr., 80, Gold Beach, died June 14, 2000, at home from prostate cancer.
He was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Marshfield. He graduated from Marshfield High School and attended Montana State University.
He worked for Marshall Wells and Coast-to-Coast stores as a district manager prior to moving to Gold Beach.
He and his wife Beverly purchased and operated the Coast-to-Coast Store in Gold Beach from 1960-1983.
He served in the National Guard and the 249th Coast Artillery from Coos Bay. He also served in the Army Air Force.
Mr. Larsson was involved in many civic and service organizations. He served as a Boy Scout troop leader, president of the Gold Beach Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Gold Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
He was also a member of the Hillah Shrine Club and Gold Beach Masonic Lodge. He was a 50-year member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and served as the exalted ruler of Gold Beach Lodge 2675 in 1991 to 1992. He was a past member of the Gold Beach Rotary.
Survivors are his wife of 59 years Beverly Larsson, Gold Beach; brother John Larsson, Eugene; sons Richard Larsson Jr. and William Larsson, both of Lake Oswego; Laurence Larsson, Grants Pass; Brian Larsson, Brookings; daughters Jill McGinnis, Gold Beach; Jan Dietz, West Linn.
He was also blessed with 21 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and best friend Ed Bennett.
Funeral services were officiated by Rev. Timothy Brueckner of Bethany Lutheran Church in Gold Beach. A gathering of family and friends followed the service at the Larsson residence.
Interment will be at Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach.
The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society or Curry County Home Health/Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Scantlins Gold Beach Mortuary Chapel.
