Rebecca Kealy

Rebecca Kealy

Rebecca Lyn Kealy, 39, of Brookings, passed away Feb. 17, 2013, in Crescent City, Calif., following a four-year battle with Hodgkins lymphoma.

Rebecca was born Oct. 10, 1973, in Tawas City, Mich., to Stephen and Virginia (Smith) Keller. She grew up and attended school there.

Becky, as she was known to family and friends, then went on to college in Oklahoma where she earned an associate degree and served in the United States Air Force. She later served in the Air National Guard while pursuing a teaching degree at Texas State University and, due to the September 11 terrorist attacks, was called back to active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Becky received an honorable discharge at the rank of staff sergeant. While in the Air Force, her primary duty was as a surgical assistant, a career she continued for several years as a civilian.

Becky married Dr. Ryan Kealy May 14, 2002, in San Marcos, Texas. The couple lived there and in various cities in North Carolina before moving to Brookings in August of 2012.

Becky loved to crochet, bake, hike and snow ski. Most of all, though, Becky loved being a mother to her three children. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband Dr. Ryan Kealy of Brookings; children Aryn Cabrece Kealy; Claire Elise Kealy and Jackson Reis Kealy, all of Brookings; mother and stepfather Virginia and Andrew DalPizzol of Harrisville, Mich.; father and stepmother Steve and Denise Keller of West Branch, Mich.; sisters and brothers-in-law Leah and Scott Schesser of Iwakuni, Japan, Erin and Chris McGowan of Saginaw, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law Andrew and Kelly Keller of Las Vegas.

Private services and interment were held in Brookings.
