Raymond Brent Ferris passed away Oct. 25, 2012, one day shy of his 72nd birthday, at his home in Brookings.
Brent, as family and friends knew him, was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Oakland, Calif., to Raymond, Sr. and Edith (Macklin) Ferris.
He lived most of his life in the Bay Area. Following high school, Brent attended college briefly before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps.
After being discharged, he began what would become a lifelong career in the food business. Initially running bread and candy supply routes, Brent later worked as a produce manager for local grocery stores.
He married Nancy Filippi on Oct. 18, 1985, in Fairfield, Calif. The two retired to Brookings in 2002. Brent loved being in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing in area rivers and in the ocean. He was a volunteer with the Harbor Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife Nancy of Brookings; children Tara Kelly of Fremont, Calif., Janell Wyant of Citrus Heights, Calif., David Filippi of Pacifica, Calif., and Dominic Filippi of San Mateo, Calif.; six grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Bob Prindle of Moraga, Calif.; niece Robin De Sapio of Ventura, Calif.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Redwood Memorial Chapel, 1020 Fifield St., in Brookings.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Brent’s memory to the Bay Area Hospital Radiation Therapy Center, Gift of Hope, 1775 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, OR 97420.
