Ray Wilson 96, San Jose, died Dec. 27, 2000, in San Jose, Calif.

He was born in Bakersfield, Calif., on Jan. 26, 1904, to parents George Wilson and Rhoda (Clendenen) Wilson.

He graduated from Dinuba High School and attended College of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., where he graduated with a bachelors degree in engineering in 1929.

Mr. Wilson worked in the San Francisco Bay area before, during and after World War II in the steel and casting industry, a skill he brought to the Brookings area.

In 1947, he and his family moved to Northern California in the Live Oak area where he farmed and owned a walnut orchard. Upon his retirement in 1966, he moved to the Brookings area where he fished and made cannon balls, lead weights and zincs for fishermen.

Along with his son Richard and grandson Steven, Mr. Wilson rode out the August 1972 storm off the coast of Brookings in his sons boat, the fishing vessel Penguin.

An avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life, he settled in the Marina Heights area of Brookings, where he lived until 1996.

As his health declined, he moved to his granddaughter Loris home in Sacramento to be near his family.

Survivors are his sons Richard Wilson, Mountain View, Calif.; David Wilson, Port Orchard, Wash.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Lillian (Gray) Wilson in 1986.

A graveside ceremony will be held Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at W.J. Ward Memorial Cemetery in Brookings.
