Peter Anthony John, 90, of Medford, died Sunday, June 12, 2011, in Medford. He was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Marianna, Pa., to Ralph and Rose John. During World War II, Pete served with the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific. He married Florence S. “Willie” Phair Dec. 25, 1952; She died in 2006. He was a duck hunting guide and owned Pete’s Guide Service. He guided for many well-known celebrities throughout the years. He and his wife lived in the Tulelake, Calif., area for many years. In 1971 they moved to Klamath, Calif., and two years later to Smith River where he was very active at the Ship Ashore Resort. There he was known as “Oyster Pete” for his oyster feeds during various salmon and steelhead fishing derbies. Survivors include five nieces and nephews, all of the New York vicinity, and a host of friends from many areas. A graveside service for Pete will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Klamath Memorial Park, 2680 Memorial Dr., in Klamath Falls, Father Rogatian Urassa, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Klamath Falls, officiating.
