Patrick was born Sept. 18, 1949, in South Bend, Ind., to Betty and Orie Swick.
Patrick was a Vietnam veteran. Although his service was as a freight specialist unloading cargo, he served wholeheartedly, earning the U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal, an award in recognition of “receiving character and efficiency ratings of excellent or higher during a time of war.”
Patrick began his career with the State of California on July 23, 1990. Upon graduating from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Academy (CDCR), he began his career as a correctional officer at Pelican Bay State Prison in Smith River, Calif., on Sept. 1, 1990, where he remained until his retirement on April 30, 2009.
He is survived by his parents; sister Sandy; brothers Ron and Greg; his former wife Cecelia and their two sons Pat Jr. and Chris; Suzanne, his wife of the last 20 years, and her children Michele, Sherry, ShaNa and SP — to whom Pat was a significant father figure. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Pioneer Road, Brookings.
