William “Bill” J. Clapson

Nov. 1, 1948 – July 17, 2013

William “Bill” J. Clapson passed away at his home on July 17, 2013, following a brief but courageous fight with brain cancer. He was 64.

Bill was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Raymond, Wash. He graduated high school in Happy Camp, Calif., in 1968, and then immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Bill served during the Vietnam War as a bodyguard for officers and USO troops. He was honorably discharged in December of 1973 having been awarded numerous service awards including the Sharpshooter Badge.

He then returned to Happy Camp where he married Pam Bart. In 1978, they moved to Brookings. Bill worked at the mill briefly and then began what would be more than a 30-year career with Del Cur Supply as a water specialist. Bill loved his work helping local residents design and build water systems for the vast array of irrigation needs in Brookings and Harbor.

He married Glenda Fisher Nov. 1, 1998, in Brookings. Bill enjoyed being in the outdoors including camping and hunting trips to Happy Camp. He also helped to build the Brookings Nazarene Church and was an active member at St. Timothy Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife Glenda of Brookings; sons Scott Clapson of Brookings, Jason Clapson and his wife Shandell of Placerville, Calif; grandchildren Kylie, Wade, James and Eleanor; sisters Donna Lootens of Redding, Calif., Colleen Takush; and his mother Hattie Brizendine of Redding, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to an account established, to assist the family, at any branch of Rogue Federal Credit Union.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, July 27, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 401 Fir Street in Brookings. The Rev. Bernie Lindley will officiate. A reception will follow the service there.
