Michael Muyres Covey died April 13, 2002, in Smith River.
Mr. Covey was born May 16, 1942, in Hackensack, Minn.
He was a 49-year resident of Del Norte County. Mr. Covey was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a member of VFW Post 1381. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Taylor Westbrook as a logger.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His hobbies included mechanics and welding. Mr. Covey enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Survivors include wife, Phyllis Covey of Smith River; daughters, Jeri Throop and Julie Cain; stepson, David Criteser of Smith River; and stepdaughters, Rayona Zosel and Janelle Brown, all of Smith River; Dawn Brown of Springfield; brother, John Covey of Marietta, Ga.; sisters, Barbara Gordon of Roseburg; Lecia Seaman of Eugene; Betty Ann Rennich of Bridge.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 23, Crescent City, CA 95531.
Visitation will take place Thursday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Wier's Mortuary Chapel.
Memorial Services will take place at the Smith River Community Center on First Street in Smith River Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
