Michael Brown 

Oct. 23, 1945-July 17, 2014

Former Brookings resident Michael G. Brown, 68, passed away at his Port Angeles, Washington, home following a battle with cancer. 

He was born in Wichita, Kansas, to David R. and Rita M. (Boklage) Brown on Oct. 23, 1945. 

He attended Brookings-Harbor  High School and Lane Community College. 

In 1967, he served as a U.S. Marine corporal. 

He was a bar manager at Duffy’s Tavern on the University of Oregon Campus from 1969 through 1971. He worked construction and became a pipefitter in Eugene, from 1972 through 1986. He worked for Port Angeles City Light with Bonneville Energy Program from 1987 through 2003. 

He was married to Sharon Ann McCartin Brown from 1971 through 1976. 

He was then married to Anne Soskey from 1978 through 1988. 

He married his love, Verné Fuson, in 1996 and the couple remained together until his passing. 

Michael was a master craftsman who mastered many disciplines. He restored numerous homes, including an 1800s farm that was once a stagecoach stop in Elmira. He was an outstanding woodworker, creating beautiful carvings, building boats and stained-glass windows. He restored a 1950s M.G.T.D and enjoyed driving around Port Angeles with his dog and best buddy, Penelope. Michael was also active in city and school board politics. He worked diligently on the Lincoln School Historical Project and volunteered in area school science fairs, helping students achieve their goals. He will be missed by his many friends and family. 

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Pipefitters Union. 

He leaves behind his sons Casey Brown of Portland, Blair Brown of Vancouver, Washington; stepsons John (Renee) Solway, of Arlington, Washington, Jim McCartin, of Tucson,  Arizona, and Sean McCartin, of Idaho; step-daughter Kristina Soloway; sister Meredith (Jim) Reed; brother Skip (Kathy) Brown; brother-in-law Joe Fuson; and grandchildren Remy Brown, Rice Solway and Ryan Solway. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Betty Fuson; and brother-in-law Steve Fuson. 

A celebration of his life will take place from 1 to 3 p.m Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Campfire Girls Clubhouse, 619 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
