Michael A. Grogan, 64, passed away at his home in Brookings on July 28, 2014.
Michael was born Feb. 11, 1950, in Montpelier, Vermont, to Frederic and Virginia Grogan. Following high school, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served honorably for two years including service in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart.
Upon discharge, he began what would be a lifelong career as a commercial fisherman. Michael married Debra Brewer Lively Nov. 22, 2007, in Brookings.
In addition to fishing, Michael had a “green thumb” and was very knowledgeable in botany. He also enjoyed politics. One of the highlights of Michael’s life was watching his daughter graduate from the University of Oregon. He was loved and will be missed.
Survivors include his wife Debra of Brookings; children Larra Lively, Nicholas Davidson and his wife Tanya, Shawn, Crystal and Brendan Grogan; brother Rick Grogan, his wife Ellen and their daughter Jane.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; sister Margaret “Margie” Grogan and a niece Lucy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Brookings VFW Post 966, 507 Pacific Ave. in Brookings. A potluck reception will follow there.
