Merwin D. Johnson, 79, of Brookings, died Jan. 24, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 28, 1933, in Minnesota, the oldest of five children.
Merwin was married before he entered the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge he moved to California with his family, where he became a successful general contractor.
Later in life, Merwin relocated to Brookings in hopes all of his children would follow.
He then remarried and invested in a waterfront cafe at the Port of Brookings Harbor.
Those of us knew Merwin as a successful, hard-working and generous man. He was a positive thinker, many times saying, “Today was a good day — better days to come.”
We love him and miss him.
Survivors include four children and five grandchildren.
