Mary Williams, 83, of Brookings passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at her home. Mary was born May 27, 1928, in Noti, to James and Lila (Armstrong) Haynes. She grew up and attended school there. Mary married Thomas C. Williams Sept. 9, 1946, in Eugene. They moved to Brookings in 1981. Mary attended the Brookings Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed sewing and making blankets for her family; she was also fond of her cat, Salem, and collected cat memorabilia. Survivors include her sons Don Williams of Pleasant Hill, Steve Williams and his wife Cyndi of Brookings; daughter Lilla Folster of Chester, S.C., 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister Doris Swafford of Crow. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, T.C., in 1999 and a son Michael Williams. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Brookings Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chetco Ave. Pastor Rick Green will officiate. A reception will follow there. The family would like to thank her doctors, Coastal Home Health and Hospice nurses, and caregive Shirley Bowden, for their part in making it possible for Mary to remain living in her home in her last years.
