Mary Catherine Braynard

Mary Catherine Braynard, 88, Harbor, died Aug. 4, 2001, in Harbor.

She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Williams, Iowa, to James and Anna Murphy

She graduated from Williams High School in 1931.

On Feb. 22, 1941, she married Clyde Braynard in Webster City, Iowa. They moved across the United States during the war years while Clyde built military barracks.

They moved to Harbor in 1945. She and her husband were lily bulb and daffodil growers for many years.

Mrs. Braynard was a member of the Chetco Senior Center and the Chetco Grange. She was also a member of the Star of the Sea Altar Society where she was known as the Sunshine Lady, for more than 50 years because she sent cards of cheer and get well to those in need.

Survivors are daughters, Gretna Kleespies and husband John of Harbor; Donna Van Nest and husband Richard of Brookings; grandchildren Perry Kleespies and wife Kristy of Brookings; Kara Reed and husband Kevin of Brookings; Lynette Kleespies of Beaverton; Eric Kleespies and wife Shelly of Central Point; Shannon Kleespies of Albany; Brenda Frost and husband Jeff of Eugene; Natalie Hafen and husband Kirk of Mesquite, Nev.; Corbin Van Nest of Mesquite,

Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren.

A service was held Friday at Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
