Mary Alto, 60, of Harbor,  passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011, at her home.

Mary was born April 6, 1942, in Tillamook, to Glenn and Ola (Beavers) Smith.  

She grew up there, and graduated from Tillamook High School. 

Mary married Lloyd Elmer Alto Jan. 5, 1960, in San Francisco. 

The couple lived in different locations throughout the country as Lloyd was in the U.S. military. Upon their return to Oregon, the couple lived in North Bend before moving to Brookings in 1985.  

While here, Mary worked as an aide at Kalmiopsis Elementary School. She enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening, though her real joy was found in being a mother and grandmother.

Mary is survived by her sons Daniel Alto and his partner Tim of Brookings, Lloyd Alto and his wife Dione of Brookings; daughter Valerie Alto of Brookings; grandchildren Jeremy, Justin, Jessika, Jaime Kylend, J’Lea, Hannah; brothers Lee Smith of Redmond, Glenn Smith of Coos Bay, Jerry Smith of Coquille, and David Smith of Gold Beach. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 1995.

A memorial service will be  at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9,  at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, 15803 Highway 101, in Harbor. Pastor Jim Schultz will officiate
