Marie Coleman, 85, Brookings, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her home of an apparent heart attack.

Mrs. Coleman was born Jan.12, 1917, in Franklin, Kan., to Leon and Catherine Bruneau.

She married Lloyd Coleman on Oct.3, 1945, and they made their home in Belvedere, Ill. The Coleman's raised three children.

In 1969, after Mr. Coleman's death, Marie and her daughter, Julie, moved to Brookings, where she has lived since.

In 1975 she married Robert Stanhurst. They were married 13 years before divorcing.

Mrs. Coleman was a past volunteer at the Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce, and since 1970 had been a member of the Brookings Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an ordained deacon and elder. She was involved in the women's association and prayer group at the church.

Mrs. Coleman enjoyed living in Brookings, and spent many hours enjoying her home and its view of the harbor. She also enjoyed traveling, and spending time with her friends. Marie owned and managed several properties in the area.

She is survived by daughter, Suzanne Ferris of Belvedere, Ill., and her children Christina and Brandon Ferris; son, William Coleman of Vancouver, British Columbia, and his son Jesse Coleman; daughter, Julie Derr and her husband Gary of Brookings.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Brookings Presbyterian Church, 540 Pacific Ave, Brookings; Rev. Warren Muller officiating.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Coleman's memory to Assistance Dog Network, 54514 Rosa Road., Bandon, OR 97411.
