Marian Alpha Bettis, 84, Gold Beach, died May 15, 2001, at her adult foster care home in Medford.
She was born Aug. 6, 1916, in Monango, N.D.
Her family moved to the Eugene area when she was a child. In June 1935, she married Oliver W. Bettis. The couple moved to Gold Beach in 1946, where they owned and operated several sawmills, with Oliver running the mills and Mrs. Bettis keeping the books. They celebrated 53 years of married life prior to his death in 1988.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ophir Womens Club, Daughters of the Nile and Order of Eastern Star, where she was a past matron.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Bettis of Medford; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband Oliver, parents, seven sisters, three brothers, and three sons, John, Kenneth and Dean Bettis.
A memorial service is planned for May 23 at 1 p.m. at the Rogue River Cemetery in Gold Beach.
