Marguerite Blanche "Margie" Roth, 80, Brookings, died June 24, 2002, of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Lebanon, Pa., to Horace and Elva Doughty.

She grew up in a Catholic orphanage. During World War II, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she worked at several restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf.

She married Larry Roth, a chief engineer for Exxon, and they settled in Lodi, Calif.

He passed away in 1984. In 1995, Mrs. Roth's friends, Gary and Vionne Seefired, invited her to Brookings to meet their friend, Walter Bridwell. She instantly took a liking to Walter and moved to Brookings that year, her family said.

Mrs. Roth enjoyed cooking and helping friends and acquaintances in their time of need.

Survivors are half-sister, Dottie Sanders of Lebanon, Pa.; great-niece, Sherrie Lehman of Harrisburg, Pa.; sister-in-law, June Pierce of Colorado; and nephews, Henry and William Doughty of Pennsylvania.

Memorials are suggested to the Brookings Food Bank or the South Coast Humane Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel.
