Lucille Eleanore (Anderson) Sparks

Lucille Eleanora (Anderson) Sparks died Jan. 21, 2012, after a full, loving and happy life, at the age of 97.

Lucille was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Brunswick, Neb.

Lucille, the third of 11 children born to Pete and Louise Anderson, spent her early years caring for her brothers and sisters on their family farm after the death of her mother.

She met Gordon (Corky) Sparks in the fourth grade. He was always a great tease and eventually captured her heart, marrying her in 1935. Corky and Lucille moved to La Habra, Calif., in 1936, strongly believing and living by their Catholic faith. They raised six children in a loving and nurturing home. Most memorable in their lives were the many family reunions at Lake Shasta, Calif., and summers spent on the beaches of Huntington Beach, Calif., living in a cabana. Corky and Lucille spent their golden years traveling about the western U.S., fishing, participating in arts and crafts fairs, displaying and selling their artistic talents. They were the best of friends throughout their 64 years of marriage until his demise in 1998.

Lucille moved to Crescent City in 1999, spending the next 10 years sharing her life and stories with her oldest daughter LaVonne and granddaughter Dana.

In 2009 she moved to Ocean Park Memory-Care Community in Brookings. Lucille was “the belle of the ball,” always giving loving advice, words of wisdom and making everyone laugh in her new home. Lucille’s gentle disposition and loving nature touched many lives. Frequently heard quietly singing “You Are My Sunshine” with her granddaughter, she will be greatly missed by all of her caregivers; Lucille was truly one of a kind.

Lucille is survived by her six children, LaVonne Sparks (partner Garry Young) of Gasquet, Calif., Karen Grady of San Antonio, Patti Sparks of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Ron Sparks (wife Carol) of Bakersfield, Calif., Jim Sparks (wife Alice) of Roseburg, and Kristi Sparks Glaneman (husband Sandy) of  San Antonio; grandchildren Brent Bolin, Dana Mendez-Maciel, Wendy Mendez-Clark, James Mendez Jr., Fawn Colburn, Brody Hanson and Amanda Hanson; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her brother Norman Anderson (wife Marilyn) of Brigham City, Utah, and Delores Pallett (husband Ralph) of Lake Havasu, Ariz. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Ocean Park Memory-Care Community, P.O. Box 6988, Brookings, OR. 97415.

Arrangements under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel, Crescent City.
