Lila Lee De Clue Moore

Feb. 24, 1934-May 11, 2014

Former Brookings resident Lila Lee De Clue Moore, on Mothers Day, May 11, 2014, was called home by her Lord and Savior, her family by her side.

She married Chuck in 1955, and was his wife and best friend for 59 years.

They had two children, daughter Denise and Rick Bartlow from Walla Walla, Washington; and Steve and Liz Moore from Arlington, Washington. They also had four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Lila and Chuck owned and operated Swensen’s Ice Cream Parlor in Petaluma, California, from 1972 to 1976. She and the student employees, whom she lovingly called “Jerks,” made the store “The Darling of The Franchise” with its cable-car decor.

In 1983 they moved to Brookings-Harbor and purchased Harbor Hills Mobile Home Park, which they owned and operated for 23 years.

Lila was active in several organizations in Brookings-Harbor: the Elks Emblem Club 265 Azalea Court, Soroptimist International of Brookings, and the Presbyterian Church Choir. Her true love was the Chetco Pelican Players, which she helped to get started.

In 2003, Lila and Chuck sold the park and began a life of full-time RVing. After nine years and visiting every state, they settled in Soap Lake, Washington, to be closer to their children.

She is survived by her husband Chuck; daughter Denise Bartlow; son Steve Moore; and all their grandchildren.

A memorial was held May 24, at the Ephrata Presbyterian Church in Ephrata, Washington.

Submitted by the family.
