Larry Eugene Herbert, 62, San Carlos, Calif., died March 26, 2001, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Wisconsin and raised on a farm. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ranger as a radio technician.

He met his wife Joyce in 1958 and they were married shortly after.

Mr. Herbert worked for Burroughs/ Unisys for 37 years. He retired in 1998 and spent his last two years in Brookings fishing and enjoying life as a volunteer for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Survivors are his wife Joyce Ursula Herbert of Crescent City; daughter Lavonda Williams; grandchildren Michelle Mattocks and Crystal Williams; sister and brother-in-law Karen and Lee Craigo; nephews Christopher and Nicholas Craigo.

Memorial services will be today (March 31) at 1 p.m. at the White Oaks Chapel in San Carlos. He will be laid to rest at sea in Brookings.

The family requests remembrances be made to the American Cancer Society (Huntingtons Disease) 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501 and Mission Hospice of San Mateo County, 151 West 20th Ave., San Mateo, CA 94403.
