Larry Donald Steele

Larry Donald Steele, also known as The Old Duffer, 73, Harbor, died of cancer on Oct. 17, 2001, in Harbor.

He was born April 9, 1928 in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Frances and Beatrice Steele. Before moving to Harbor, he lived in Sacramento, Calif., where he was active in the Ben Ali Shrine and the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department.

In Harbor, he was active in the Masonic Lodge, the Chetco Shrine Club, the Brookings Police Reserves and the Curry County Sheriffs Department Reserve. He was a Harbor resident for 21 years.

Mr. Steele is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruth Steele, Harbor; son, Larry Steele of Stockton, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Randall and Stephanie Pitts of Dixon, Calif.; grandchildren, Amber Crabtree of Vacaville, Calif., Larry Steele II of Galt, Calif., Aaron Pitts of Sacramento, Donald Steele of Galt; and a great granddaughter, Kaylee Crabtree of Vacaville.

He is also survived by brothers and sisters in law, Milton and Nancy Steele of Sacramento; and David and Carole Steele of Flat Rock, N.C.

Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge.

Contributions may be made to the Shiners Childrens Hospital or Curry County Hospice.
