Lamar E. "Dupe" Dupree, 92, Gold Beach, died July 12, 2002, in a Brookings care facility of natural causes. Mr. Dupree was born June 24, 1910, in Denver, Colo. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine, and was honorably discharged Aug. 15, 1945. He married Darlene Nearhoff in 1947 in Winnemucca, Nev. He spent much of his career painting communication relay stations in Alaska under government contract. He retired in 1972. He and his wife lived in Alaska for 30 years before moving to Gold Beach in 1984. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and devoted much of his retirement time to fishing. He belonged to the Anchorage Masonic Lodge as both a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife of Gold Beach; brother-in-law, Roger Nearhoff of Apache Junction, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Private memorial services will be at a later date. Mr. Dupree's ashes will be scattered with military honors by the U.S. Coast Guard Friday, July 19. Arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel. |
