Kenneth Walter Payne, 59, of Gold Beach, died April 23, 2002, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 27, 1942, in Crescent City to Lawrence and Ada Lorraine Gardner.
He lived in Gold Beach for the first 20 years of his life, graduating from Gold Beach High School.
He married Dawn Schjoll in 1994 in Winnemucca, Nev.
He worked for Weyerhauser Corp. in Washington for 22 years. Since 1990, he had worked for Columbia Helicopter in the logging business as a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn; daughters, Melinda Baines and Deborah Mickelson, both of Gold Beach; son, Larry Payne, Gold Beach; two step-daughters, Maya Schjoll and Melissa Schjoll, both of Madras; father and step-mother, Lawrence and Elva Payne, Gold Beach; mother Ada Lorraine Gardner, Brookings; brother, Pete Payne, Brookings; two step-brothers, Rusty Green, Gresham, and Steve Green, Bandon; sister, Betty Netcher, Alturas, Calif.; stepsisters, Kathy Glazier, Eugene, Terri Dickerson and Pat Green, both of Crooked River Ranch; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Elmer "Swede" Gardner.
A celebration of life is scheduled May 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Gold Beach.
