Joyce Raymond, 77, of Brookings, passed away Aug. 29, 2011, at her home, her family at her side. Joyce was born April 17, 1934, in Deadwood, S.D., the only child of Van and Grace Van Eaton. Her father worked in construction so the family moved frequently, but Joyce was able to spend her high school years in Bandon. She graduated from Bandon High School, where she was a Cranberry Festival Princess. Following graduation, Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Ed Wehner. They began their family and moved to Brookings in 1964. In 1969 Joyce met and married the love of her life, Donald Raymond. The union added three stepdaughters to Joyce’s four daughters. Joyce and Donald wanted to add a boy to their seven daughters, but ended up having another daughter in 1970. Joyce is cherished by her family as the “world’s best mother and friend.” Joyce also had a very special relationship with her mother, on a day-to-day basis. They did almost everything together. She also enjoyed dancing, traveling with her family, reading, shopping, and her cats, but her most her favorite pastime was spending time with her daughters. Survivors include her mother Grace Van Eaton – 98 years young – of Brookings; daughters and sons-in-law Sheryl and Bud Davis of White City, Deanna and Tyler Evans of Seaside, Marlene and Colin Clark of Oregon City, Susan Wehner of Eugene, Dawn and Carl Guenther of Brookings; stepdaughters and their husbands Michelle and Barry Williby of Lomita, Calif., Karen Bertolini of Brookings and Kim and Jim Dobson of Central Point. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Donald and her father, Van. Memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 493, Gold Beach, OR 97444. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., today, (Sept. 3) at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield St., in Brookings. A reception will follow there. Private interment was held at W. J. Ward Memorial Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.redwoodmemorial.net. Submitted by Redwood Memorial Chapel.
