John P. Kennar, 21, Bothell, Wash., died Feb. 6, 2002, in Bothell.
He was born Sept. 3, 1980, in Los Angeles.
He moved with his family to Gold Beach in 1990.
Mr. Kennar was educated in Gold Beach schools, graduating from high school in 1998.
He attended the California Institute of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles where he became an accomplished chef. He enjoyed cooking, playing cribbage and dominoes. He was a member of New Life Center Assembly of God Church.
He had been a resident of Bothell for two months.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Isabella and Steve Brock of Gold Beach; father, James Kennar of Los Angeles; brother, Paul Kennar of Los Angeles; and maternal grandmother, Mabel Powell of Los Angeles. Also surviving are family members in Brookings and Gold Beach.
A memorial service will be today (Feb. 13) at 11 a.m. at New Life Center Assembly of God Church, 94245 Sixth St., Gold Beach. Pastor Lester Craig Sr. will officiate.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel, Brookings.
