John “Hummer” Elbert Parke, Brookings, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, in Medford after undergoing back surgery.
Mr. Parke was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Tulon Township, Starke County, Ill., to James W. and Beulah M. Parke.
He served in he U.S. Army.
He and his wife of 54 years, Janice, moved to the Brookings area in the 1970s, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for E&S Wood Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; sons Myron, Rolo and Jeff, all of Brookings, and Gene of Yakima, Wash.; six grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Beulah Parke; his brothers, Jim and Westley; his sisters-in-law, Janet and Lucy; and his nephews, Randy and Jimmy.
A memorial service and potluck for Mr. Parke will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Brookings Elks Lodge, 800 Elk Drive.
