Jessie Marie Brown, 85, Brookings, died Aug. 28, 2000, at home.
She was born April 19, 1915, in Perry, Okla., and moved to Oregon in 1933.
She married Donald K. Brown in Eugene on June 12, 1936. During World War II she reported on weather conditions in Aniak, Alaska, for the National Weather Bureau.
She and and family moved to Brookings in 1961 from Springfield where they had lived for 13 years.
In Brookings, she was active in the formation of the Pelican Bay Art Association and the Commercial Fisherman's Wives Association. She worked along side her husband on their commercial fishing boats, the John L, Ceres and Little Joe.
Survivors are her husband of 64 years, Donald K. Brown; daughter Judy and her husband, Ray Murry, North Plains; daughter Linda and her husband, Len Barker; son Ralph and his wife, Linda Brown son Steven and his wife Martha Brown, all of Brookings; brother Walter "Jiggs" Fox of Creswell.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and her caregivers, Diane Ross and Heidi English of Brookings.
Preceding her in death was daughter and son-in-law Mary and Floyd Bidwell; her parents and nine of her 10 brothers and sisters.
Services are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at Scantlin's Mortuary in Brookings with interment at Ward Memorial Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Curry County Hospice or a favorite charity.
