Former Brookings resident Jerry James McCollum, 73, of Prairie City died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at Blue Mountain Care Center in Prairie City.
Jerry was born Dec. 1, 1940, to Bernard and Rose (Beauregard) McCollum in Seaside.
He spent three years in the U.S. Navy.
Jerry married Florence Nottier Sept. 25, 1969, in The Dalles.
Jerry worked for Martin Marietta as a furnace operator for 23 years. He also worked as a U.S. Forest Service lookout for Grant County, and was a head groundskeeper for Brookings-Harbor School district in Brookings for 13 years; all before retiring in 1984. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife Florence “Frankie” McCollum of Prairie City; daughters Carrie Drullinger of Eugene, Taunia “Toni” Saphiloff of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; son Mark McCollum of Brookings. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jason Liddell, Jadin Payne McCollum, Mayce McCollum, Jacub McCollum, Logan Drullinger, Carly Drullinger, Kaitlin Saphiloff, and Daisy Saphiloff.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Rose McCollum; sister Diane Jonilonis, and brother Robert McCollum.
