Jeffrey L. Hancock, of Gold Beach, was born July 21, 1961, and raised in Carson City, Nev.
He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a bachelor of science degree in Criminal Justice.
Jeff’s “connection” with Gold Beach began at age 8 when he and his family made their first of many trips here to fish the Rogue River. During every visit, he would state, “Wouldn’t it be great to live in Gold Beach.”
On a fishing trip in 1990, Jeff and his dad noticed a job posting in the Curry County Reporter for a position with the Curry County Juvenile Department. He applied for and got the job. Ironically, the position had just been vacated by his future brother-in-law, Joe Ferguson. Jeff was very proud of his “successes” (troubled youth whom he was able to influence and lead in a positive direction). He spoke highly and often about his peers in Juvenile Corrections and Law Enforcement.
Jeff married Stacey Ferguson in 1994. Their daughter, Heidi, was born in 1998. She was absolutely his “pride and joy.”
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, but nothing meant more to Jeff Hancock than his family.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 94190 Fifth St., in Gold Beach. A potluck gathering will follow the service at the same location.
Memorial contributions to “Heidi Hancock’s College Fund” may be made at Chetco Federal Credit Union in Gold Beach.
